  Thank you, Everyone, for your posts. The thread title is based on the contest's name.

  I was raised on vinyl recordings in the 1950s and '60s, our family having only a used, thrift store portable phonogragh. It played 45 rpm records -- some of which I still have -- and 33 rpm long playing vinyl. I treasure those moments when a new world of luxuriant sound opened up before me.

  HiFi was great -- once we upgraded!

  In the top 100, the composers most represented were Beethoven, Mozart, Bach. No pieces by Haydn, Schumann or Liszt. Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" was bumped totally. Beethoven's 9th made the #1 spot twelve out of fourteen years of this contest's duration.

  Massenet's "Meditation" [Thais] made the biggest jump, from #90 last year to #30 this year.

  No more drama for me -- live and let live. Before I grew up, I was a very possessive clinging vine. Is that a tautology? I thought I'd never live through some of the emotionally painful geeky social situations the writer has described. He nailed it.

  when i was a kid in the early 90's there always seemed to be a mention of how demons posessing people or how if you saw a demon or something supernatural occuring mearly calling jehovah's name would rid you of the situation.

  rarely now a days do you hear anything of the sort.

  that got me to thinking, what are some other topics the society has backed off of?

  I have always been an avid note taker -- pen/pencil and paper. I would never be able to afford a tablet, i.e., the electronic variety.

  when one looks back retrospectively at the very beginning of this organization, you could see that the wts.. was on a structural platform of success, created by cunningly created doctrines, such as the invisible return of.

  christ, the end times and the imminently soon to come armageddon, all bundled together.. .. this religious organization like so many others established in the united states was unregulated and had.

  no upper governing control over its daily operations.. they proclaimed and taught what they wanted to or needed to sustain their operations as a publishing house.. .

  Take your time, thedog, to digest what you've experienced here so far.

  In real life, when dealing with people face-to-face, we can read them as a whole (not truly possible here). No matter their words and however expressed, we tend to read either good or ill into what they have said.

  While some points made here may be valid in this or that circumstance, to make blanket assertions that cast doubt upon one's intentions and motivation shows bias. So what if one remains an elder because, for the time being, one feels this is what one must do? Is it necessary to berate that person for pursuing what he deems the correct path at this particular time? His conscience is not your conscience.

  Found out about my 'marking'.

  yesterday we met up with an old ex witness friend after four years.

  it was great to drop all the barriers that have stopped us all meeting recently.

  apparently, it turns out that i was marked as an apostate some time ago.

  Not by name, of course, I was marked during a Sunday's WT study. That was unusual in that markings are generally relegated to announcements at the evening meeting (TMS/SM).

  Do videos buffer well on your Apple?

  i did some research and one website acknowledges that windows provides superior buffering of videos compared to that of apple computers.

  since i own both type computers, i have experienced this.

  even newer and, might i add, very expensive apple computers buffer videos poorly, so i have read.
